LA BIBLIOTECA DE LA LUNA

Author: Sandra Bruna Thursday 6 June 2019

Decades ago, after the signature of the Global Ecology Pact, which prohibited the use of paper and wood, Verne has only known digital books, apart from a few examples in a museum.

The sadness and frustration of never having declared his feelings for Moira, the love of his life, fills the vacuum of his existence. Employed as an engineer on the first hotel complex on the Moon, the 384,000 kilometres of separation now makes it impossible for them.

Apart from a few emails in which they share a platonic love, every time he looks at the Moon, he feels that has wasted half his life being friends with Moira without having tried to be happy.

All his attempts to be hired by the Exovillage, as they call the first hotel complex on the Moon, come to nothing despite him falsifying his cv as an experienced waiter.

Resigned to a life of loneliness and emptiness, one day he receives a call from the Exovillage offices in Geneva to take part in the selection process. Against all odds, he is accepted as a new employee for the lunar colony and sent without delay to the launch base on the island of Palau.

However, once on the Moon, he finds that nothing is as he imagined.

LA BIBLIOTECA DE LA LUNA

Author: Sandra Bruna Monday 27 May 2019

A revealing novel – with echoes of Bradbury, Huxley or Rampa – about the future of humanity in a space colony.

In the more or less near future, Kumar, an eccentric tycoon, creates the first human colony on the Moon: Exovillage, a tourist centre for great fortunes.

Verne, a linguist who works in a call center, is in love with Moira, a telecommunications engineer who works in Exovillage and suffers from <<space melancholy>>. The young man manages to move there to work as a librarian (printed books were banned on Earth to avoid deforestation) and he will find texts that seek intellectual perfection. When Verne manages to go out to explore the lunar surface, he comes across a rare hermit who will become his Zen master.

EL ÚLTIMO VAGÓN (the last carriage)

Author: Sandra Bruna Tuesday 5 February 2019

  • An emotional and touching novel that will make it impossible to put the book down.
  • An ode to those teachers committed to students and their learning.
  • The wonderful narrative by Ángeles Doñates is back with a very sensitive story that will mark us forever.

Ikal is 11 years old, son of a railway worker and his dream is to be a teacher. He admires Chica, counts trains with Tuerto, dreams with Valeria, a peasant girl, and lives thousands of adventures with Quetzal, his dog. All of them are Ernesto’s students in the train-school Malinalli Teneplat, during a course that will change their lives. At the nowhere border, between fruit tree fields and old carriages, thirty students will discover what life is about thanks to their teacher’s passion.

A picture in black and white of all of them, that lays inside an old file, will become Hugo Valenzuela’s worst nightmare years later, a great inspector. The time has come for the teacher, old and almost blind, to retire. He asks for a replacement but some politicians believe it is about time to shelve his old-fashioned and useless education system. Useless? Hugo is not sure about this and starts an investigation. In a journey that will take him to meet with his past again, Hugo will have to put his future at stake and he will also discover that some marks are forever. Like the ones from a first love or a teacher that, with curiosity and love, open our windows to the world.

EL OBRADOR DE PRODIGIOS (the miracle worker)

Author: Sandra Bruna Friday 14 December 2018

Alba was born in Barcelona a Christmas in 1926. Thanks to her mother and grandmother, she will develop kitchen skills and a passion for the bakery. Time ago, Mateu Serra was born in a little town in Lleida, with no heir but his entrepreneurship and bravery. Despite the time gap and their different backgrounds, their paths will cross when Alba starts working at the Serra’s Bakery, the first seed of the Escribà’s Bakery.

The journey will not be easy: it is a time of Post-war prohibitions and being a girl makes it more difficult. But Alba is inspired by the baker who, without resources and education, arrived at Barcelona after a long journey and set up his own bakery in the city.  Alba will not give up: everything revolves around the bakery until she finally gets a job at the Escriba’s Bakery. Alba will become a testimony of this time in which Escribà will revolutionize the world of confectionery and chocolate.

The magical world of  confectionary – Christian Escribà is one of the most popular bakers in the world- finds in L’obrador de prodigis her natural place where passion, bravery and creativity live together.

The girl of the cello

Author: Sandra Bruna Friday 14 December 2018

Sometimes life can change in a second. It’s up to us to take face the risk to discover the secrets in store for us.

London, early 2000s: Anne is a young musician with two great talents; chello and lack of compromise. After a robbery on rehearsal day, Anne is forced to use an old case for her chello, one that has been in her family for generations. Or so she thinks.
A stumble in the middle of the street breaks the handle of the case, leading Anne to discover a key and an old photo reel buried inside the cover. The picture, old and barely visible only shows a street in Barcelona and a pair of twins. This discovery will lead Anne to uncover a past that she might have chosen to never figure out.
Now, Anne is in Barcelona for a concert. She has the picture, the key, the name of the street. And nothing to lose.

“If they had told me that it was a global bestseller, I would have believed it. It’s been a while since I’ve found anything like it and I still cannot believe it found its way to me.”
