IN THE LAKE

Author: Bruno Monday 19 September 2022

Maria Barbal’s new novel after the international recognition of Tándem.

“Remembering that summer is like looking back at paradise before passing through a door that will leave it behind forever.”

For Nora, a twelve-year-old girl, going on Sundays to the lake, a very beautiful and quiet place of changing colors, is a delightful experience. Except for Quim, who is seven, everyone in the group accompanying her is an adult. Each of them harbors their own longings, and she observes them and does not always think she understands them, but on the last morning at the lake, as a result of a conflict between the elders and Quim’s daring, Nora will suddenly awaken from the dream of childhood.

Maria Barbal’s new work after the international recognition of Tándem is a novel of great emotional intensity about longing, beauty, the passing of time and the meaning of happiness.

BARCELONA DEMÀ O AQUESTA TARDA

Author: Sandra Bruna Wednesday 26 May 2021

A satirical novel, of social criticism, that imagines the future of a Barcelona assaulted by the tourist fever.

What do an architect from the Olympic Barcelona, a fishmonger from La Boqueria, an editor from the Upper Diagonal, an immigrant who disguises herself as a Disney princess to make a human statue on the Rambla or a priest of the Sagrada Família have in common? The answer is that they are tired of Barcelona being the great tourist destination, a city at the service of outsiders who no longer recognize or feel like their own. And what would happen if these characters, so different, but typically from Barcelona, one day decided to stop complaining and join forces to make a project of transformation of the city much more radical than the Olympic Games?

BARCELONA DEMÀ O AQUESTA TARDA is a resoundingly original and seemingly simple story, but full of nuances and plot twists, which with a fast pace and clear and concise language catches the reader from the first page. A satirical and parodic story that can also be read as a disturbing dystopia.
