LEAVING ON HOLIDAYS WITH A BOOK UNDER THE ARM

Author: Sandra Bruna Thursday 27 July 2017

We’re going on holidays: it’s time to rest, to be with our friends and family, and have time to do what we love the most. I hope most of you, among the many things that you want to do, choose reading as one of them. Don’t forget that reading a book is having a great travel companion, either for a sunny day on the beach or a picnic in the mountain –or any resting place. Dedicating time to read is a magical moment for us readers that like to explore other people’s worlds. I know you know what I mean.

I leave you with great quotes from literary personalities, with whom I wholeheartedly agree. You all know, for those of you who follow this blog that my go-to sentence is: Reading is life because life without books would be meaningless.

I wish you all a great summer holiday with good company, and I’ll see you back in September with many novelties to face the beginning of the course with books that will help us move forward.

HAPPY SUMMER!

“I must say I find television very educational. The minute somebody turns it on, I go to the library and read a good book.” – Groucho Marx.

“Let others pride themselves about how many pages they have written; I’d rather boast about the ones I’ve read.” ―Jorge Luis Borges.

“There is more treasure in books than in all the pirate’s loot on Treasure Island.” ― Walt Disney.

“Reading is living much longer and much better! Reading doesn’t kill my time, reading fills me and adds value to my life” ―Emili Teixidor.

HOLIDAYS, FUN AND TIBIDABO

Author: Sandra Bruna Thursday 22 June 2017

Today is the first day of holidays for the kids. Summer is here. I’ve got such good memories of my childhood summers: together with my siblings, on the beach and on the mountain with my parents and grandparents. We’ve always been a family that has enjoyed doing things together, and as I’ve got unique grandpas and grandmas who have always wanted to spend these times with us, I remember fondly the first two weeks of August in Sant Pol. I still go on holidays there, and I remember eating altogether in a large table from one of those hotels of this fantastic Maresme’s town. We shared the beach, meals, and a terrace in front of the sea, where we spoke, despite being teenagers, with all the grown-ups at the table. We lived fantastic and unique moments, unforgettable to me. When I’m there and I breath the smell of the sea, these fond and happy memories come to me. I’ve got plenty of them, and I keep them safe in my mind.

In the summer, we always went to the cinema or to the Tibidabo’s amusement park. If we went with our grandparents, we had to go by tram and the adventure was even greater. Even though I’ve never liked fairground rides, I must confess that Tibidabo was a nice park with charisma. When I read the latest novel by Sílvia Tarragó, T’HO DONARÉ TOT, published by Columna, I had these small moments of longing, and I also immersed myself in a story I didn’t know anything about -and I’ve loved learning about it. Who invested in this park? How did everything start? We’ve got the history of Tibidabo and its characters: two of the daughters of one of the workers from its urbanization in the first decades of the 20th century. On the background, there is a cosmopolitan and precocious Barcelona and, at the top of the cake, a story filled with love, intrigue and drama.

This is the perfect novel for this summer, for those who want to be addicted to a novel where it’s told the history of one of the oldest amusement parks of the world (not only of Spain or Europe!), along with a great family fiction that will hook you from the first page. For any reader of SUEÑOS A MEDIDA and HABITACIONES CERRADAS, you should read Sílvia Tarragó if you haven’t discovered her yet. Hers is a strong feminine voice that steps on the gas pedal of the bumper car in order to get to a wider audience. They’re captivated by how well she combines history and fiction. Don’t miss it!

HAPPY EASTER!

Author: Sandra Bruna Wednesday 12 April 2017

We have some days to rest and recharge batteries in order to be in full swing after Easter Holidays. These past few months have been hectic, with the London and the Bologna Book Fair, and tons of hard work so that every book can find a publisher.

We come back on Tuesday 18th of April with our best smiles and with Saint George’s day around the corner. We hope we can live once again a wonderful book day celebration.

Therefore, the team of Sandra Bruna’s Literary Agency wishes you a happy Easter. Don’t forget to open your mind and travel with a great book!

BACK TO REALITY

Author: Sandra Bruna Thursday 1 September 2016

The summer is over. For almost all of us, we are now back to routine and no matter how hard we try to convince ourselves that having a job related to what we like is wonderful, and having a job even more, I must confess that the return to work remains tough, especially when the summer has been fun, with a great deal of plans with friends, sport, sun, beach and family. What a privilege! Nevertheless, the return had to come and here we are for whatever may come during this new season. Good things must come to an end so that they can begin again, that’s what my father always told us when we were young and it always cheered me up. So let’s say we said goodbye to the summer with joy and start this month back to “school” with joy, enthusiasm and willingness too. We must live in the present, the now and exploit the most of it. For many of us, including me in the first place, it is hard to manage emotions: the sadness because the summer is over, the fear because a new stage begins, because of the school change for our children… It is a cocktail that whoever has and knows how to handle it with the correct weapons, is really much happier than the others.

mindfulness

So my first recommendation for this season is ideal for those who need a little push, some easy advice that will help to face the New Year from now with all the passion that it deserve. Mónica Esgueva has published her book MINDFULNESS, UNA GUÍA PRÁCTICA with Zenith and she suggests that, in these times of distraction, we must not lose our focus and enjoy what is here and now. After more than twenty years in the world of meditation and with the help of great Eastern teachers who taught her to practice and perfect this technique, the author presents this guide in which she includes all her knowledge and introduces us to the world of the Mindfulness in a clear way. She also suggests exercises to help us to focus, to let go our concerns and to appreciate what we have without feeling that we are missing something. The book is already on my night stand and I start my CARPE DIEM plan without further delay. Would you start with me?
